Customs Union Technical Regulations

The Customs Union is a union that was formed in 2010 and is comprised of Kazakhstan, Belarus and Russia. They adopted some rules that would govern trade between these three states and make movement of goods easier. These rules are what are known as Customs Union technical regulations.

The Customs Union technical regulations (also known as CU TR) also allow people from outside the CU (Customs Union) to export different products to the Customs Union. All they need is proper certification to prove that their products are of a high quality and consumer-friendly.

CU TR applies to products in industries like food and chemicals, machinery, lifting and technical devices, all kinds of equipment even those that are used in dangerous working conditions and processes like packaging, transportation, manufacturing, disposal, sale, storage and warehousing.

The main aim of the CU TR is to ensure that consumers do not use products that will harm them in any way, to safeguard the environment from harm and maintaining a high quality of standards all through the CU. Manufacturers are also safeguarded from competing with fake products. Companies that meet Customs Union technical regulations receive a higher rating from the certifying body thus increasing their sales.

CU requirements

A manufacturer only receives CU TR certification if they comply with the Customs Union technical regulations. Their products have to be tested to confirm whether they meet the standards set out. Documentation about the products and the company also has to be given for confirmation of authenticity and comparison with the results found after testing the product samples.

The documents given after the whole process has been completed are the declaration and a certificate of conformity. The declaration is a statement that confirms the high quality of the products and the certificate proves that they meet the set standards.

Changes are constantly being made to the Customs Union technical regulations in the CU so it is important to always stay updated. An easier way is to consult experts in this field because they’re always abreast with any new changes. This reduces the workload, time and money spent finding out this information.

This CU TR certificate is slowly gaining more ground and is overtaking the Russian internal conformity certificates. This is because this certificate covers more criteria and products are taken through a very intensive investigation process.

After issuing of the CU certificate, it is valid for 1 to 5 years and is dependent on the type of shipment. You can even get a certificate that is valid for just a single shipment of goods. The manufacturer is expected to maintain the quality of the products within this period until the next time that a renewal will be required.

In the event that the product requires other certificates like a fire safety certificate, pattern approval or a hygiene report the CU certificate will be given last only after these others are obtained.
